Sedimentary Provenance From the Evolving Forearc‐to‐Foreland Central Sakarya Basin, Western Anatolia Reveals Multi‐Phase Intercontinental Collision

چکیده
Collision between the Pontides and Anatolide-Tauride Block along İzmir-Ankara-Erzincan suture in Anatolia has been variously estimated from Late Cretaceous to Eocene. It remains unclear whether this age range results a protracted, multi-phase collision or differences proxies of and/or strike diachroneity. Here, we leverage Cretaceous-Eocene evolution forearc-to-foreland Central Sakarya Basin system western determine when how progressed. New detrital zircon (DZ) sandstone petrography indicate that volcanic arc was main source sediment forearc basin Cretaceous. The first appearance Pontide basement-aged DZs, concert with exhumation accretionary prism decrease regional convergence rates, indicates intercontinental initiated no later than 76 Ma. However, contractional phase does not produce advanced thick-skinned deformation partitioning until ca. 54 We propose three non-exclusive widely applicable mechanisms reconcile observed ∼20 Myr delay initial upper plate deformation: slab breakoff, relict closure north south İAES, underthrusting progressively thicker passive margin lithosphere. These highlight links coupling during continental collision.

Hydraulic Fracturing and Seismicity in the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin
The development of most unconventional oil and gas resources relies upon subsurface injection of very large volumes of fluids, which can induce earthquakes by activating slip on a nearby fault. During the last 5 years, accelerated oilfield fluid injection has led to a sharp increase in the rate of earthquakes in some parts of North America. In the central United States, most induced seismicity ...
متن کاملHelium flux from a sedimentary basin.
The tritium-3He ages of groundwaters collected from the Saijo Basin in Japan were measured. The ages vary between 11.7 and 16.3 years. The 4He flux of >3 x 10(4) atoms/cm2 s is calculated by the 4He concentrations and ages. In addition the helium flux of 8.3 x 10(5) atoms/cm2 s is calculated at the Higashi-Niigata gas field in Japan. The above two estimates are consistent with the continental h...
متن کاملOrigin and evolution of formation waters , Alberta Basin , Western Canada Sedimentary Basin . I . Chemistry
-Inorganic chemical analyses and short-chain aliphatic acid content are used to interpret the origin and compositional evolution of formation waters in the Alberta portion of the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin. Forty-three formation water samples were obtained covering a stratigraphic interval from Devonian to Cretaceous. The data show that: (1) there is a subaerially evaporated brine compone...
متن کاملSedimentary biomarker and isotopic indicators of the paleoclimatic history of the Walker Lake basin, western Nevada
-Walker Lake, a terminal saline lake in western Nevada, has experienced major fluctuations in its water level due to changes in the regional climate during Quaternary times. As part of a paleoclimatological study of western Nevada, we have investigated organic matter 6 ~3C and C/N values and lipid biomarker contents of sediments deposited at various periods over the past 150 thousand years of l...
متن کاملLate Barremian-Early Aptian Ammonites from the Tirgan Formation, Kopet-Dagh Sedimentary Basin, NE Iran
During the recent field research on the Tirgan Formation in the west of Kopet-Dagh sedimentary basin, ammonite assemblages were obtained from the carbonate strata of this formation. This new finding is important for stratigraphical purpose. In this research, 3 genera belong to Heteroceras, Deshayesites and Cheloniceras? as well as one uncertain genus belongs to Turkmeniceras are determined. The...
